— UWW Bard

The University Without Walls program at Bard College began in 1971.  The Union for Experimenting Colleges and Universities proposed a program that was “’more relevant, more flexible in meeting individual needs, more economical, which serves more kinds of students, which utilizes a broader range of educative resources, and which fosters continuous lifelong creative learning.’

The program is called Univesity Without Walls because its structure extends far beyond the classroom and the college campus… [It] emphasizes the importance of allowing a student to mold his own educational program.  It recognizes the fact that there is a tremendous diversity in abilities and aspirations of those who seek a higher education.” (p. 6)

Unfortunately, the program closed just as many others have.
