UWW Flaming Rainbow

” ‘Stillwell Flaming Rainbow University Without Walls’, as it was first called, was born in 1971.. Its mission…was in the beginning: to provide personalized college education for isolated Indians and rural whites in this beautifully treed and poverty stricken section of the state”.  (Chris Brawley, “School Fights Tradition, Seeks Own Credibility”, OK News, March 2, 1986)

David Hilligoss, pictured below was the first director of the Flaming Rainbow UWW.  He left Flaming Rainbow in 1973.

Flaming Rainbow awarded its degrees through the UECU until 1979, when it was accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. After that, it awarded its own degrees and became “Flaming Rainbow University”, dropping the “…Without Walls” from its name. The college ceased operations when its accreditation was withdrawn in 1992.
